“MOST ARTISTS ALREADY MADE A HIT. THEY JUST DIDN’T PROMOTE OR MARKET IT RIGHT OR DON’T/DIDN’T HAVE THE KIND OF FUNDS NEEDED TO, SO IT DOESN’T BLOW UP”
Like I said earlier, of cos an artiste can still get heard, blown or known without having huge funds, but it depends on the partnerships you have in place, who is in your corner pushing, promoting you, who you know, how long your legs are and who is willing to go to bat for you.
E.g LOJAY & SARZ, RUGER & JONZING/MAVIN, PORTABLE & KOGABGIDI, OLAMIDE & FIREBOY plus all the other artistes he has pushed/signed over the years.
Don’t allow peer pressure or the pressure to release new works make you put out releases when you aren’t ready with a budget, plan or strategy for your music. If you must release anything put out other content heralding the coming release of your new music, do skits, or just put out studio session videos or BTS on the making of the song. Repost about your old works and tell them to expect your new work coming soon.
Many artistes post their song or music video clip a few times on social media and think the work is done. Why spend money + time on creating a song or music video you believe in, if you’re not going to invest in marketing it properly?
Music needs to be consistently promoted to new audiences or it will become stagnant. That’s why most of your faves, once they see a song/album is doing well they will milk it dry with remixes or deluxe versions. So as an upcoming or even an established artiste you need a plan & budget to properly promote your music. Even when you don’t have a blank cheque budget then make sure you make the best of the resources available to you. Never make unreasonable plans or budgets that are unrealistic, that your pocket or funding can’t sustain.
No matter what you do a proper plan and intentional strategy is always the way forward. So keep on moving non stop even if it’s just one step at a time and always be ready to learn, re-learn, unlearn, re-adjust or amend your plan to suit your situation at every turn.
People will wish you well, but only as long as you don’t do better than them or get ahead of them. Remember only the dead don’t talk or complain so while you are alive, complain all you can if you must but always be dynamic.
